Dr. Jennifer Smith and Dr. Jasmine Begeske
Dr. Jennifer E. Smith and Dr. Jasmine Begeske are both clinical assistant professors of special education. They are being recognized for their dedication to promoting accessibility and inclusion in education through innovative and effective interventions.
Dr. Smith and Dr. Begeske are the co-founding directors of the Center for Resources and Equipment for Assistive Technology in Education (or CREATE). CREATE is an Assistive Technology library and makerspace for individualizing and creating the next generation of Assistive Technology interventions. Not only do Dr. Smith and Dr. Begeske include assistive technology and inclusive practices in their own courses, but they also have made CREATE a resource for all students and faculty across Teacher Education at Purdue, including providing access to and assistance from CREATE for consultations, demonstration, or borrowing equipment. Through CREATE, Dr. Smith and Dr. Begeske are helping students and faculty at Purdue learn how to develop and individualize appropriate Assistive Technology for and improve the accessibility of PK-12 instruction.
